A review on the 2022 horror movie “The Black Phone”

The newly released horror movie “The Black Phone” has made its way over all social media platforms. “The Black Phone’ was released on June 24th, 2022. The film has made $161 million in the box office. It was directed by Scott Derrickson, and stars actor Mason Thames –as Finney– and Ethan Hawke –as The Grabber–.

The movie introduced Finney Shaw, as he finds out a group of kids from his town have gone missing. Finney ends up getting taken by The Grabber, and is held in a soundproof basement. When the disconnected phone on the wall starts ringing, he learns that he can hear the voices of the previous victims.

The story is said to have a very complex plot, and is said to be a very intense horror movie. Many people have very different opinions on the movie, but the majority of reviews on this movie are positive. 

The movie has been rated as an eight out of ten on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was rated a 4.3 out of five stars on Google, and the movie ended up being on demand 62.9 times more than the average movie. 

“I love when a great independent thriller comes along and surprises me … this film is great all around. It’s simple, quaint, and yet very effective…,” one audience member said on Rotten Tomatoes

“The atmospheric and unnerving horror movie doesn’t just have literal scares, it effectively taps into our primal fears about menacing predators in all forms,”Movie critic Wenlei Ma said, Many people over all platforms have similar opinions on the newer horror movie. 

Almost 90 percent of students interviewed have said that they watched it and thought that the movie was good, 40 percent of those students recommended watching the movie. 

Sophomore, Jade Jones, said “it wasn’t that great, the plot was kind of all over the place and it was very confusing,” said Jade Jones a sophomore student at Central Kitsap High School.

“The setting was creative from the start to finish, it had a very uneasy and creepy tone to the story all around. It kind of had a joker side and a creepy side to it.” said Hunter Marek, Sophomore at CKHS.
