Footsteps echo as you walk down an empty hallway on the third floor just after the majority of students have retreated downstairs. School has just barely ended but the hallways are already almost empty. As you near your destination towards the end of the hall, loud rhythmic music grows in volume.

Korean Language and Cultural Club meets in room 3203, every Tuesday after school, from 2:40-3:40p.m. KLCC celebrates and teaches about the Korean culture and language while also providing a safe and welcoming environment to learn and pursue interests.

“People who like K-Pop and want to learn about the Korean language and dramas can all get together and talk about it, and learn more about my culture,” said KLCC President, Jiwon Mun.

The club covers a lot of different interests including K-Pop dancing, K-Dramas, learning the Korean alphabet  and activities centered around the recently popular show “Squid Games”

“If you have any really small interest in any kind of Korean culture or anything like that, I think it would be a fun opportunity because everyone here has that same interest so it’d be fun to make some friends and see who likes the same stuff,” said Kai Junior, regular member.

The club was formed last year by Kallie Szczepanski, who is the club advisor, Esther Lampall and Maria Inoue. Maria Inoue is one of the current webmasters for KLCC along with Francesca Dockendorf, the rest of the leadership team includes Jiwon Mun who holds the position of president, Angela Isorena as the club secretary and Gabby Clifton as treasurer.

“Every Tuesday I really look forward to it, actually during my classes just because it’s kind of a space where everyone can get together and have the same interests,” said Junior

Korean Language and Culture Club is a unique opportunity to learn about Korean culture, unlike all the other language clubs at CKHS. There is no class for learning about it so attending the club is one of the only opportunities.
