HOSA (Future Healthcare Occupations) is a club that any student interested in the medical field should join right away.

HOSA is a student organization that provides professional healthcare and skill development for students of all ages, from middle school to post-graduate,” said CollegeVine. “For future and current healthcare professionals in many different niches, this serves as excellent preparation and offers extensive networking opportunities.”

“The healthcare profession is huge,” Says Katie Staker, CKHS HOSA advisor. “There are so many opportunities from entry level, right out of high school. There are lots and lots of satisfying and well paying jobs. Being in HOSA and having that experience looks fantastic on a college/ job application, resume, or essay. We educate them [members] about jobs , we do lots of service, and have fun! They will learn basic laboratory skills, clinical skills, and we have professionals in the medical field come in and teach clinical skills …  like taking vitals, suturing, wound cleaning, burn treatment, and first aid + CPR.”

Not only are members learning all about the medical field, there is also the Annual HOSA competition/ conference in March. Ashley Chamburs, co-president of HOSA, said “We will hopefully get everyone to internationals this year!”

Staker, along with Chamburs and officers, are planning on running another pad drive this year. New additions include a baby formula drive, a blood drive, and HOSA will be collecting volunteers to donate bone marrow in the near future. Staker cannot stress enough that the club will highlight many mental health issues this year, that “mental health is a big issue for the health of teens and young adults, and so our club will do an awareness or support campaign”.

The CTE Department is covering all dues this year, meaning anyone could have the full HOSA experience completely free. On Tuesdays, in room 4002, starting at 2:45 PM, HOSA will be available to anyone interested in the wide variety of the medical field.
