During the year, each reporter is expected to write two stories for each category shown below, with some exceptions surrounding videos, podcasts, and photo galleries. This quarter, the majority of stories published were opinions and reviews, which totaled 16 of the 28 stories written overall.
Following the other categories, news saw eight stories and features saw four, along with six photo galleries published. For sports, podcasts, and video stories, none were published.
For the opinion/review section, stories are divided between opinions, reviews, recaps, and editorials. Out of the 16 stories published in this category, 11 were reviews, with five on movies, four on books, one on an album, and another on a video game. For recaps, there was one overview of the super bowl, and for opinions, four were written on topics regarding AI, Ticketmaster, tipping culture, and the NFL off season.
For the feature section, the four articles written discussed the reality of pursuing art at the university level, a day in the life of CKHS custodians, Coffee Oasis’s community impact, and the production of “Pride and Prejudice.” When looking at the news section, eight stories were published, with some focusing on topics like the CKHS ICE walkout, the rebuilt lunch schedule, and multiple performances in the Performing Arts Center. In regards to photo galleries, the six published were of the column, “A Week at CKHS.”
Each quarter, our publication publishes a physical magazine issue in addition to our online site. While all reporters write for our website, the print magazine is limited to Journalism 2 students and above. In addition, stories within the magazine often cap at 600 words, however, there are exceptions for articles with permission to branch across multiple spreads.
This issue’s theme was “Loud and Proud,” with stories touching on topics like school plays, student bands, and clubs at Central Kitsap High School. Since the magazine has specific sections, the coverage between news, feature, sports, and opinion articles are relatively even, as shown in the graph below.
Interviewees
To better understand how accurately our publication represents the community, a survey was released to the 46 individuals who were interviewed this quarter. Through the survey, participants were able to share information about themselves (as shown in the graphs below), while also giving their thoughts on the professionalism of our reporters. Out of the 46 people interviewed, 16 of which filled out the survey, with their responses contributing to the data below.
