Six years ago, senior Jon Buholz picked up a soccer ball, kicked it a couple times, and instantly fell in love with the sport. Buholz is a well-trained soccer player, using his head, rather than his physical abilities to make him a better player.

Buholz will play soccer as calmly as possible; that way he does not overthink things. He doesn’t let his adrenaline take over his body, because he said, “That’s when most mistakes are made.”

His favorite position is attacking midfielder. He looks for clean passes to get the ball to his teammates who are closer to the goal. If Buholz sees that nobody is open he usually will try and take a shot himself. “This is risky but sometimes when you don’t have a move you have to.” Buholz has even scored the winning shots of a game, and he claims there’s not a better feeling in the world.

His second favorite position is goalie. He stands in front of the goal and blocks the ball anytime someone tries to score. Buholz said, “I am not the best goalie, but I am a good backup.”

Buholz has a huge love for soccer and plans to play professionally one day. He has participated in many competitions, and loves the feeling of bringing home the gold.
