Dahl Leads The Wildcats
The CK Wildcats have been a recreational soccer club for the past seven years. They are known for placing first place every year in their league. Recently, players growing older and getting jobs have left the team, leaving the reigning champs to slowly decay into a losing slump for the past two years. This year the CK Wildcats have the addition of new players who have made the team’s form slowly return to winning ways.
One of the players who is the spine of the Wildcats is a seven year vet, Captain Kody Dahl. Dahl is the team’s wall in the defense. He plays fullback but occasionally switches to center back if he thinks he can shut down the other team’s striker. Dahl’s role in the team is to assemble the defense and be the shot caller. Dahl and the goalkeeper have a close relationship because they are the ones who see the whole field.
Dahl has made many memories whilst playing on the Wildcats. Being a defender, Dahl doesn’t see much of the opposing team’s net. Only on special occasions he ventures past the half. One of these occasions is a corner kick. This occurs when the opposing team hits the ball out behind the goal, and gives the other team a free cross from the corner of the field. This is a great chance for the team taking the kick to score.
“I love corner kicks,” Dahl said, “It’s my chance to show the opposition that I’m more than a guy who kicks the ball out.” Dahl is a specialist when It comes to this set piece. He knows the perfect positions to hit the ball in if the cross gets to him. “I have had a great time playing for this team,” Dahl’s stated after the victory. “This being my last year, I want to give it my all.”
In a close game against Tracyton FC, Dahl scores one of his favorite goals in his soccer career. “All I saw was the ball” Dahl said., “I heard nothing but the ball hit my cleat and the sound of the net shaking. Shortly after I heard the crowd erupt and my team running towards me. A moment I will never forget.”
To finish out his last year strong, Dahl wishes to take home The Presidents Cup from the recreational soccer tournament where teams from around the region compete for the grand prize. “I’ve always wanted to lift the trophy,” Dahl said. “It would be the perfect ending to recreational soccer career.”
The Wildcats are training hard this year to be able to participate in the Cup and bring It home to CK and fulfill their captain’s dream.
