CK Volleyball Slams North Thurston
The Volleyball team received first place in the 3A Narrows League on October 31 at the League’s tournament. The Lady Cougars played rivals North Thurston with whom they were tied for first place until the Cougars won a 3-1 match with the scores being 25 – 20, 25 – 18, 22 – 25, 16 – 25. CK previously played North Thurston and lost a 3-0 game, but played them again at a home game and beat North Thurston 3-2 on October 20th.
The game on October 31st started out tense with the score between the two teams close until the Cougars were able to pull away with a 5 point lead and win the first and second game They lost the third game but came back quickly to win the fourth.
“We are so excited, we’ve worked really hard for this, we’ve been practicing countering their attacks so our defense would be stronger, which proved to be with the win,” said senior outside hitter Taija Rice, who had 12 kills and a .370 hitting percentage.
“Well, we were pretty excited, I wasn’t quite sure how this game was going to go, but we all played our game tonight and we played strong which lead to a successful game,” Senior Outside hitter Tess Burleson said.
Cecilia Teston, the “Secret Weapon” of the team, received first place in the 3A Narrows League in assists and aces; she had 350 assists and 46 aces. Taija Rice had 120 kills and received third place in the 3A Narrows Leagues, and Katie Thorsen had an overall season hitting percentage of .375 and received second place in the league.
This year the Cougars will be in seed one at the District Tournament, which will determine if they go to state, congratulation Cougs!
