Adopt A Family

Devnich greets an adopted family for the first time.

Adopt a family is about the gift of giving. Throughout Kitsap County we have hundreds of families that are homeless and don’t get to enjoy the holiday spirit the way they should. However, that changed several years ago, in 2006, when U.S history teacher Katherine Devnich initiated a better way to share the joy. The key to the success of adopt a family is having the teacher choose one of many families to support for the holidays.

A list of donations include things that a family simply needs/uses on a day-to-day basis, such as toiletry and some basic needs of living. On top of that, there’s the joy of the holidays, such as gifts being donated, toys, gift cards, and clothes. All items that families can have fun with and it’s such a joy knowing that just simply by donating the gift of joy can make families have truly a “happy holiday.” Devnich said, “As a public school teacher I see every day the support that is given to our students—and I believe it is important for students to have the opportunity to give back.”
