Staker Starts Strong
Katie Staker is the new activities coordinator this year at CK; she is also a biology and leadership teacher. Before working at CKHS, she was a fourth grade teacher. Staker transitioned from eight-years olds and crayons, to teenagers and cell phones in just a year. Staker said, “I had a lot of support from members of the ASB. They’re great people.”
Staker organized the first Senior Meeting here at CK, which informed the scholars of the Class of 2016 about graduation expenses. Staker also coordinated and authorized the 2015 Homecoming dance. The theme was “Bollywood,” which gave the feel of a Disney Aladdin fairy tale. In the Auxiliary gym, there was a setup where Homecoming pictures could be taken. The background was similar to that of Aladdin’s palace. Many said the dance was amazing.
The most talked about aspect of the dance was the music. Staker thought it was a great idea to have students pick the music they wanted to hear at the dance. She had song request sign-ups in the cafeteria where students could write down songs they wanted played. DJ Z was hired to dj and he played a different variety of genres to make everyone feel comfortable on the dance floor and made sure to play all of the songs people requested.
