Archery

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Archery starts in October and ends in June. Island Archery is located on Bainbridge Island. “It’s a lot of fun, it takes patience and focus; it also teaches you how to relax, even if you’re all stressed out. Also, not a whole lot of people do archery,” said sophomore Daeylnn Reider.

Archery dates back to approximately 2800 BC. The very first composite bow was constructed by the Egyptians. This bow could be shot up to 400 yards. Other than for warfare, archery was, and still is, used for hunting. Archery is practiced as a sport in England and other places by both royalty and the general public. The word archery derives from the Latin word “acus” meaning bow and arrow.

“I started archery in a camp in the 5th grade, I had my mom look into it and I started the basic learning group, but then my coach told me that I should join the junior olympic group that he had. It took me three years before he invited me,”said sophomore Daeylnn Reider
