The Brotherhood of Swim
Ambitious, charming, hard working, crazy, and dedicated are five words that junior Paul Lingenbrink used to describe this year’s Men’s Swim Team. Along with impressively high scores, the swim team created a bond like no other. “Everything is about the team. We condition together, we eat together, we do everything we can to better each other every time we see one another.” said Senior Austin Mullins.
The whole team agrees that their teammates are like brothers to them. They spent up to fifteen hours a week at practice and at meets.“Being able to go to practice after school and have an incredible time with your brothers is the best part of swim team this year,” said Captain Brennan Dour. Along with great friendships, the Boys Swim Team triumphed the season with great scores, sending nine swimmers to the the district championship.
The boys worked hard in and out of the pool, running drills, learning strategy and proper technique, and learning how to become a team player. “Coach G has taught us how to be team players and how to always end the meet feeling accomplished and that’s the biggest thing I’ll take away from this swim season.” said Senior Andrew Campbell. Win or lose, the team remained happy, upbeat and feeling accomplished. The boys grew as a team, and the team grew as a family.
This year in swim, there was an abundance of seniors. The most that they’ve had in years. Having a great deal of seniors is both a blessing and a curse. There are more mentors, and returned swimmers to help the younger, newer swimmers, but it also means that there will be a great deal of seniors not here next year.“Senior year of swim has been turnt. I’m excited to start a new chapter in life, but i’m going to miss our crazy spaghetti feeds, messing around with the coaches, and swimming against other teams. Most of all though, I’ll miss my swim brothers.” said Senior Brayden Howard. As the season comes to an end, the Men’s swim team will never forget their accomplishments as a team, and as a family.
