Highlight of the Night
This year the CK ASB organized a rare occasion by hosting an informal dance, something the students have been asking for for quite a while. Junior Kennedy Jackson said, “I was surprised when I first heard about the dance.”
No fancy dresses, tuxedos, or shoes that hurt your feet! The dress code was casual attire, such as a simple dress or a nice pair of shorts. And for a guy, khakis would suit the dress code. The entry fee was only $7 without ABS, $5 with. The decision to make this an annual occasion is unmade. This may be just a one time event. It will be up to the next ASB council to decide if an informal dance would be a permanent addition to CK events. ASB adviser Katie Staker said, “The response was positive enough that it is worth trying again.”
This dance wasn’t anything like Homecoming or Tolo, there weren’t many decorations. But what caught the attention of students was how the gym was surrounded in black lights. If you wore neon colors, or white, your clothes glowed in the dark. The entire gym was lit with a variety of different colors. Since everyone talked about how great DJ Z was at Homecoming, ASB went out of their to make sure to have that same DJ at the informal dance as well.
Not many people attended the informal dance. A rough estimate of 50 people were there, and most people didn’t stay till the end. Half the people left midway through the dance. There were many complaints about the music which came as a shock to most, considering that it was the same DJ from Homecoming. Sophomore Jordyn Johnson said, “Overall I enjoyed the dance. I had a great time, they should do this again next year!”
