Rising to the top

Josh Geiser advanced forward in the Capital meet, the meet before Fort Steilacom.

CKHS Cross Country runner junior Josh Geiser started the season off as the #8 runner, barely missing varsity, but through the season Geiser had been pushing harder than ever to make his dream of making varsity come true. At the League Championships in Fort Steilacom, Geiser was the #7 runner. At the start of the race, Geiser went off at a fast start, causing the coaches and fellow athletes to wonder if Josh Geiser might burn himself out in the race. Once the race had reached its halfway point, Geiser was still pushing through and making his way past more and more runners.

Fellow athletes said, “I thought he was gonna burn out, because he was putting on such a surge that we thought he was just on a adrenaline rush and bound to crash.” But as the race neared its finish, Josh Geiser was coming down the last 200 meters as the #3 runner for CKHS. When Geiser came back to the CKHS tent, he was greeted with claps on the back and cheers as everyone was astounded to see that he had not just achieved his goal but went beyond it.
