Explanation Of Political Issues

by Julian D Dorsey, Writer

As the 2018 year has kicked off there have been already quite a few controversial issues nationwide and globally. 30 students were asked a few questions from a variety of cultures and grades from Central Kitsap High School.

As of today’s date, would you prefer Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, or Abstain your answer meaning a different candidate?

Out of 30 students asked, 66.7% of them responded with abstaining. 13.3% responded with Clinton, and 20% responded with Trump.

Most of the students have appeared to abstain. This may be because like the American society in the 2016 election, although Donald Trump had won it had appeared as the nation was indecisive. This appearance has reflected in the survey. This school contains a variety of different views may it be left leaning, right leaning, or centralized. It could be inferred that no matter what Central Kitsap Students always strive to do the right thing. An Example may be the school walkout, students walked out for the better and safety of others across the nation.

Do you think social media companies abuse your private information?

Out of the 30 students asked yes or no, 6.67% of those said they believed that they did not abuse user information. While 93.3% of students replied with a yes.

With a vast answer difference with the answer yes being the majority, it is clear that since the recent testification of Mark Zuckerberg to U.S Congress has raised a lot of suspicions for social media users. Many students have observed that when they do common things such as look on Amazon, Youtube, or Instagram for clothing or a product that information is taken and ads appear across websites when they search the web for the same product. Data is created on that specific person had been looking at the category or specifically, that every product and the ads are then specialized to what that person was specifically looking at. That is an example of not necessarily abusing your information, but companies may be abusing other personal information as opposed to simply what you view in the same form of process.

Do you feel safe in the U.S with today’s global issues?

When asked this last question, 46.67% of students said they did not feel safe, while 53.33% agreed and said they felt fine. Central Kitsap High School is located in a militarily strategic environment, most recognizable by the public is Naval Base Kitsap. A majority of students have parents or family that has served in the military or is currently serving. With these navy bases, creates a large target for small communities such as Silverdale. The Bremerton Naval Shipyard holds the U.S Navy’s largest fuel depot. Dale Durham, a student at Central Kitsap High School was confident in the United States defense, he stated that “If anyone is going to hit us, we’re going to hit them straight back.” This relates to ¨Mutually Assured Destruction¨ it is commonly used to prevent war, most recognizably used in the Cold War. If one country decides to fire a nuclear missile at another country Ex: Russia to the US. By both countries have the same amount of missiles in their arsenal, ¨If they hit us, we´re going to hit them¨.
