Over the past years, the students at Central Kitsap high school have been trying to limit the strict of their dress code policy. Although they had not succeeded in the past yet they kept trying, knowing that one day they will get what they want. In the year of 2017-18, the school had students sign a petition in order for the school board to pass the dress code with less restrictions.

Throughout CK, many students and staff have opposite opinion on the new dress code. In the old dress code, students did not like the fact that they had to cover most of their clothing. Most of the students think that the dress code policy does not affect their academic achievements and it should not be important as our education is.

According to the school board, the new dress policy should focus on a more appropriate attire that the students can contribute better to a productive learning environment. It is the students responsibility to dress appropriately and that they should follow what is in the new dress code policy. Some of the rules that are given to them are, clothing must cover their undergarments, clothing must also be suitable for any school  activities like physical education, science labs etc… , and that clothing must not be a disruption of educational process.

Staff member Sarah Malone explained how she dislikes the new dress code and how it can affect other students education and distract them. ¨ Students could get distracted if another student is wearing something inappropriate.¨ Although some students agree with her statement most of them disagree and think that there should not be a dress policy.

Majority of the students in CK have a whole different perspective on how their dress code should be. Senior Josh Ruelo thought that the last dress code was ¨… more appropriate, but it was unfair and more strict towards girls than it was to boys.¨ He and many other students think that the new dress policy is more equivalent on both genders and that it should stay that way.

Although some students and staff dislike the new dress code and think a strict dress policy give a sense of security throughout the schools environment, half of the others believe that it is more of a way for the students to express themselves on what they wear regardless. At the end of the day most of the CK high school students have gotten what they´ve known and believed the new dress policy should have always been and that it should stay that way.
