Athletes on the Central Kitsap High school volleyball team are starting the season with a new coach. Rebecca Arthur is coaching the volleyball team for the first time as the head coach here at CK.

“This is my first time being the head coach here at CK, but I have been the assistant coach for 15 years and I played volleyball here,” says Arthur.

“I’ve been an assistant basketball coach here, I have also coached track and field for a year at CK, and club volleyball at UP.”

Junior varsity volleyball player Riley Knapp discusses with us her feelings on the season and new coach. “I feel like we’re doing pretty good we have beaten teams that we haven’t beaten before. With Mrs. Arthur, it’s a different environment.”

Although Arthur has to juggle being a science teacher and head volleyball coach, she loves every minute of it.

“I really like working with young athletes, I get to know students in a different way. The team has flashes of brilliance, but the team needs to play more consistently, overall good team. And the team dynamic is positive.”

With a win loss ratio of 8-5 the young athletes are really setting a great example of one cougar nation and what it’s like to be a team. Catch them next Tuesday for their last home game for senior night at CK against Shelton at 7:15 in the gymnasium.
