Lucky

The jungle was restless. Vines criss crossed on the ground. Lucky walked through the jungle, her extremely long hair reaching down to her ankles and getting caught on branches every now and then. The trees looked at her and their eyes widened, most plants didn’t know what a little five-year-old girl was, since the human race had been suddenly wiped out at the end of the 23rd century. Lucky smiled and waved to the trees as she walked by. She stepped into a clear area and a green woman with flawless leaf-like skin sat in the center, smiling up at the clouds. Lucky walked over to her.

“Um… Excuse me, miss?”

The woman turned around, showing her pale green face. She tilted her head in confusion, looking down at the little girl.

“Um… Hi?”

Lucky smiled and waved. “Hi! I’m Lucky! C-Can you help me find my mama?”

She stood up and leaned down, looking into Lucky’s eyes. “You’re very small… and human.”

“Yeah, I’m five!” Lucky held up four fingers.

The woman tapped her pinky finger and pulled it up, nodding to her. “There, that’s five.”

Lucky nodded. “Yeah, I’m that old. I need to find mama and big sissy, I don’t know where they went.”

“Hmm… When did you last see them?”

Lucky looked down and counted on her fingers. “Um… Eight… One… Four, yeah! Three hundred years ago!”
The lady blinked, and stared at her.

“Uh… I don’t think…” She didn’t have the heart to say anything to her, so instead she sighed and shook her head. “Okay look, I’ve gotta absorb some sun, okay? It only comes out every week, so I can’t help you. I’m terribly sorry.”
Lucky nodded.

“Is okay! I can find them, I’m a strong girl!” she said with a smile smile as she walked away.
The woman sat back down in the middle of the field and tilted her head.

“What was with that girl…?”

Lucky jumped through the forest and was suddenly dropped into a pitfall. She held her arms out, trying to grab a vine, but there was nothing. She fell into a web and got stuck.

“Eww…” she said, pulling her extremely long hair out of the web.

The strings began vibrating slightly and a large spider crawled over to her, a large red hourglass drawn on it’s back.

“Hmm… You’re made of meat…”
Lucky tapped her stomach, just to check.

“I think so… Yeah!”

It poked her gently and Lucky used the spiders long leg to help pull herself up.

“I normally eat the leaf people that fall down here. I don’t think you would agree with my system…”

Lucky shrugged. “It might work, but I’d rather not be eated.”

“I’d rather not feed my children a toxic creature. Would you like me to take you back out?”

“Oh, yes please! M-… Ma’am?”

She nodded and held one of her legs out. Lucky grabbed onto it and the spider set her down on her back. Lucky smiled and held on as the spider climbed out of the cave. More spiders crawled onto her back and looked up at Lucky.

“What is it, mommy?”

Lucky waved. “I’m Lucky! I’m five!” She held up four fingers and pulled up her pinky. “There, that’s five.”
The spiders crawled around her. “Does she taste good?”
The spider shook her head. “No, honey. She’s made of flesh and blood, not plant materials.”
They backed of instantly and jumped off her back. Lucky clung to the spider as she made it back up to the pitfall.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
“It’s okay, thank you for helping me!” She hugged her leg and smiled to her.
The spider tilted her head. “Huh… It’s been almost a hundred years since I’ve seen a human…” She smiled. “I missed how warm they were.”
Lucky smiled and jumped away, waving to the spider as she crawled back into the hole of the cave.
Lucky continued walking away, looking around the dense jungle. A low growl shook the trees. She looked at the brush around her, but saw nothing. The sun began to set and she shrugged off the feeling that someone was watching her. The low growl started again, sending a chill down her spine and making her shudder. She sat down, keeping her knees close to her chest and holding her head with both of her hands protectively. She looked up and a wolf  stalked out of the trees, eyeing her down hungrily with bared teeth.

Lucky stared at the wolf in fear, slowly standing up at about the size of half of the wolf’s leg, which was relatively 3 feet. It snarled angrily and held its front paws spread out, preparing to attack. Lucky held her fists up, practically shaking in fear as the wolf charged. Lucky quickly spun and hit the wolf in the jaw, sending the massive beast flying over her and sprawling to the ground. She started running, but her foot got caught in a branch. Her head hit the ground and her forehead slowly bled down to her nose. The wolf slowly got up and shook its head, snarling at her and snapping it’s jaw, as if it was fantasising about tearing her body to bits with its teeth. Lucky ripped the vines apart and tried to run again, but her hair got caught on a branch and she fell.

The wolf sprang up, jumping at her and opening it’s massive mouth. The jaw tried closed on her, but she held it open, holding two teeth with her small hands. The wolf tried desperately to clamp down and snap her, but Lucky resisted, pushing her arms to their limit and gritting her teeth. The beasts tongue wrapped around her tiny waist and tried to pull her into the crushing abyss she saw in front of her. She suddenly let go of the teeth, curling up and letting the jaw close on her. She hugged the tongue and the wolf couldn’t swallow her. It slammed its own head against the ground, trying to get her out. It’s jaw opened and closed as it barked loudly and tried to bite down on her, only succeeding in biting it’s tongue and filling it’s own mouth with blood. It writhed in pain and tried clawing her off of its tongue, to no avail.

Lucky was crying, but held onto its tongue, desperate to stay in the mouth. The wolf slammed its own head into tree after tree, until  eventually it fell to the ground, completely out of strength. Lucky lifted its jaw and walked out slowly, looking up at it and walking around the jaw to look into its eye. It looked at her and slowly closed its eyelids, preparing to die. Lucky held her hand up to it’s snout and pet it gently.
“I-I’m sorry. I just didn’t want to be eated. I’m looking for my mama… Have you seen her?”
The wolf opened it’s eye and let out a low growl.
“She has white hair, and pretty red eyes! My big sissy looks just like me, but bigger!”
It slowly lifted it’s head and nodded, letting out a small whine.
“It’s okay, you’re just hungry!” Her stomach growled. “I’m hungry too. Let’s go get some food! Then you can take me to find mama!”
The beast got up slowly and fell next to Lucky, letting her climb onto it’s back and slowly starting to walk towards the sunset.
Lucky hugged the wolf gently. “Thank you for helping me!”
