On May 6, the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves battled each other in a stellar game of wit, athleticism, and determination. The game ended 3-1, Mariners. Though the Mariners prevailed, on May 5, the Braves beat them in a tense game 3-2, showcasing the Mariners determination towards winning.
In the first inning, neither team scored any points. Bryan Woo pitched for the Mariners, while Martín Pérez pitched for the Braves. The results were the same in the second inning, with the same pitches for both teams.
In the bottom of the third, Mariners’ Jhonny Pereda hit a single to left field, with Leo Rivas also doubling to left field and getting Pereda to third with Rivas to second. JP Crawford then walked, making it to first base. Afterwards, Cal Raleigh grounded, letting Pereda make it home and the Mariners ultimately scoring the first point of the game.
No more points were scored until the bottom of the 6th, where the Mariners scored their second point. With center fielder Julio Rodríguez at bat up against Braves’ Pérez, he homered it to center.
In the top of the eighth, Braves players Mike Yastrzemski and Sean Murphy singled to center field, sending Yastrzemski to third. Braves player Dominic Smith drove in 1-run with a sacrifice fly, which allowed Yastrzemski to score.
In the bottom of the eighth, Mariners player Josh Naylor singled to center field. Randy Arozarena struck out, letting Naylor steal second. Mariners player Cole Young doubled off Braves pitcher Didier Fuentes to deep right field, causing Naylor to score the Mariners third point of the game.
The Mariners and Braves also played each other on May 4 and 5, with the score on the 4 being 4-5 Mariners, and on the 5, 3-2 Braves. After these games, it brought the Mariners’ season to (18-20) and the Braves to (26-12), meaning Braves have won more games so far overall, but recently the Mariners have been beating out the Braves.
