The CK swim season is upon us and it is safe to say it will be a good one. With the hire of coach Whitney Dodd to accompany coach Patrick Mckenzie, the team is in good hands. “They always have really intense sets which are allowing us to become stronger,” said senior Paul Lingenbrink. “The two together, always have really good insight about the physical and mental aspects of swimming.” Going into a season, you want to be as prepared as possible. Whether it’s cardio, weight lifting or diet, anything is good. When asked about preparation, senior Paul Lingenbrink said, “All in all, I think that every amount of swimming has prepared me for this season.”

A typical swim practice is whatever you make of it. To begin “we generally start off with a drylands core workout (partly because we don’t have too much space). After that, we suit up, and head to the pool” says senior Paul Lingenbrink. While in the pool, due to there being varying skill and endurance levels, you are free to work on anything you need to improve on. “I start off with a 600-yard Mix-it-up, so I am free to do drills, work on kicking, pulling, or flip turns,” says senior Paul Lingenbrink. If you happen to need help on anything related to swimming or the mentality of swimming, “it’s always important to heed the advice of your coaches and always ask them what you can do to recuperate from those bad experiences,” says senior Paul Lingenbrink.
