A bully is a person who uses their own strength or power to hurt or intimidate someone who is perceived as being weaker to them.  In America, more than one out of every five (20.8%) students report being bullied, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics. Bullying takes a multitude of forms. Some examples would be physical, verbal, social, and cyber. There are many factors to why a bully acts the way they do to the victim, including but not limited to, race, sexuality, religion and so on. At CKHS we have over 1200 students and some students were open to describing their thoughts and experiences with bullying and how it pertains to CKHS.

Senior Edward Ely said,  “I have been bullied at my old school, I have never been bullied at CK though. It has been two years since I have been bullied  All I can remember was the anger and frustration that went through my head. I was a very angry person, the thought of suicide had crossed my mind many times.”

However not everyone experiences bullying, like freshman Allen Squier who said, “I have never been bullied in my life but I do know of the effects it has on someone’s mind, and how it hurts people mentally and physically.”
Bullying at CKHS is not common, Squier stated, “I have not witnessed anything.” Ely said, “Luckily I have not been exposed to any bullying at CK.”

One of the students had an idea about how to stop bullying, Squier explained, “We just need to work together to put an end to it if it really happens in our school, even I have not witnessed anything, but if we all put in the effort we really could have a good chance of finding the bullies and from there, create a sort of discipline for them.”

Bullying can happen to everyone and anywhere. Ely said, “I never thought of putting bullying into words, other than it is a messed up thing to do to someone, it puts people in a bad place that no one deserves to be in. Bullies think it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.”
