March 17th, 2023 Central Kitsap High School held the first TOLO lip sync battle in the new building, TOLO previously being replaced with “CK Night,” inspired by Olympic High School’s yearly “Oly Night.”

“The huge gap between TOLO’s, was partly the decision to do a ‘CK Night’ that one year, and then a huge part COVID,” said Daniel Sullivan, CKHS ASB advisor.

Despite this four year gap, CKHS students welcomed back both the dance and the pep assembly activities in tow. With an adjusted bell schedule, students congregated in the gym after their sixth period for the winter pep assembly.

Similar to the fall pep assembly’s “Homecoming skit,” CKHS students who choose to participate were competing against their fellow graduating classes.

The graduating class of 2026 performed a mashup of Drake’s music, while Gabrielle Dockendorf could be seen cruising the gym in her blue “sports car.” Followed by the class of 2025 performing a collection of songs from “High School Musical.”

The class of 2024, placed second place in the lip sync battle, judged by: Wendy Kassler, Kris Kassler, Kerri Ferate, and a former CKHS student. Post their performance of Bruno Mars “24K Magic,” an idea proposed by Lauren Heidt as a nod to the class of 2024, they could be spotted taking a selfie with the rest of their classmates on Heidt’s phone.

Prepping for all of the lip sync battles consisted of practices before and after school either held in their respective locations for the individual classes or together in the gym. As well as arguments over themes and song choices, ordered supplies not arriving in time, and last minute changes.

I honestly want to say over the last two and a half weeks, 20 hours [of practice],” said Heidt. “It feels like that right?”

The class of 2023, performed a recreation of the 2023 Superbowl halftime show, shocking the crowd as they screamed and cheered the loudest for this particular performance. Placing first place, Nadine Dockendorf as Rihanna led them to victory.

“As soon as we saw the senior’s practice, we knew we weren’t going to win,” said Heidt.
