Review: ‘Red Moon In Venus’ by Kali Uchis
Kali Uchis’s newest album further explores her character, and theme of divine love and femininity.
Kali Uchis’s third album “Red Moon In Venus” was released on March 3, 2023. This album has a total of 15 tracks, filled with love and nostalgia.
Venus is the governing planet of love and passion which is without a doubt where this album came from. The Red Moon also known as a blood moon brings chaos, disruption, and change. It symbolizes discovery within oneself and portrays intensity along with power which matches very well with this Colombian-American artist.
Uchis always brings me in with her smooth and loving sound, usually with her singles like “Telepatia” and “Melting.” Though this time around I dove deeper and explored this new album of self reinventing.
Listening to this album gives me a confident, warm and sunny feeling. It also reminds me of moments of pure bliss, happiness while out at a lake or beach with friends.
The lead single of this album is “I Wish You Roses.” This song was released on January 19 and debuted at 81 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 during the chart week ending of Feb. 4, 2023.
The description Uchis added on Spotify said the song is “all about releasing people with love. Whether it be old friends, old lovers, whoever you may have had to let go in life; the departed,” and “it’s about putting out into the world what you want to receive back; getting your flowers while you can still smell them.”
My favorite song on the album is way too hard to pin down so here are my top five. “Moonlight,” “Deserve Me,” “Hasta Cuándo,” “Moral Conscience,” and “Come Te Quiero.”
“Moonlight” is the most popular song on the album and rightfully so. This song is the second single on the album, released on Feb. 23, 2023.
In early March it hit over eight million streams on spotify and is currently sitting at 83 on Billboard’s hot 100.
The description Uchis added on spotify said the song is “A fun girly song about getting ready to go out with your lover and getting a natural high from being with them.”
