Christmas is a beloved holiday by people all over.

The music, snow, and the all around warm feeling we get from Christmas is astounding, and everyone who celebrates has their own favorite part about Christmas.

Currently, Christmas is right around the corner but Thanksgiving comes first. Students at Central Kitsap High School especially love the holidays. However, some feel as if celebrating Christmas cannot start before Thanksgiving, while others disagree.

“Every year for every holiday, my mom decorates,” senior Tel Frisinger explains. “Christmas is her favorite holiday so she goes all out every year, so right when November comes the Christmas lights are up, and it puts me in a good mood.”

Frisinger says that his favorite thing about Christmas time is when he gets to hang out with his family that he doesn’t get to see and most importantly, no school. Christmas time gives him an opportunity to get a mental break and stress from school.

Many families around the country celebrate Christmas in different ways, including senior Gavin Alasagas.

“My Favorite thing about Christmas is being able to see my family who I don’t get to see on a day to day basis,” Alasagas explains. “Also getting to eat my traditional Filipino food such as lumpia, pancit, adobo, etc.”

Alasagas’s family likes to decorate after Thanksgiving because it has always been a tradition for him and his family to set up the tree together, as many families decorate for the holidays together. So much so that four out of five Americans say decorating is a cherished tradition for them and their family.

“My family likes to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving because it is my family’s favorite holiday,” senior Ben Masteliro said. “What I also love about Christmas is that it brings my family together. It gets us to come together as one big family and celebrate our favorite time of the year.”

Central Kitsap High School Senior Sydney Paschal deals with a different situation though.

“My family doesn’t let us decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving,” Paschal explains. “If it were up to me though, there would be decorations at the start of November.”

Paschal said, “my favorite thing about Christmas is baking with my grandma. Anytime Christmas comes around I know that I am gonna be baking with my grandma and it is great. It just reminds me of when I was younger and it is always fun.”

Christmas is a source of comfort for some people and decorating with their families is memories and time that money can’t buy. But Christmas means different things for different people. Some like to decorate their houses with their families and spend quality time, and others may think it is a time to teach their children about the more meaningful things in life.
