Reynolds chose to draw a picture of a child holding a flower and entitled it “flower picker.”

CKHS Sophomore Rayona Reynolds’ “Flower Picker” has been judged as a Regional Winner and will advance to the state-level Superintendent’s High School Art Show at Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). She seemed to be very excited to have won this award but was unsure of how she actually managed to get it. When asked about the steps that led up to this point she said “I’m not actually sure of how I got this far. I’m pretty sure the art teacher entered it for me.” Everyone around her was very supportive and proud of her work on this project. Her sixth period teacher, Becky Arthur, even displayed the drawing in the class and said “we have a celebrity in our midst.”

The drawing is actually of her younger sister, Gracie Reynolds as a baby. Rayona felt inspired by the memory of them “picking tulips in the yard as little kids” and chose to draw this particular picture of her sister because of “how intelligent she looked”. She drew the picture in her art class as an assignment and did not expect it to be entered to the competition let alone win it.

As far as her future with the art, she is unsure of what she is planning to do. The art has just been more of a hobby rather than a career path. Overall, she was really happy with the achievement and is proud of her work.
