Freshman Elle Hillers has been playing volleyball since she was ten years old. “I started playing volleyball because my sister played and I was awkward and uncoordinated,” she said. Hillers went to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs during the summer.

Every year there is a tryout session in Spokane, which usually takes four to five hours. This year, the training center started out with 9,000 volleyball players. Hillers was one of the lucky girls to get past the the huge cuts. “I was scared when I went to try out, because they only take about 100 girls.”

Hillers is currently in the top sixty-four for the entire country. She has a very good chance at being able to go to the Olympics by the time she is 21.

Hillers does not do much other than school and volleyball. “I definitely need to get better at balancing my school work and volleyball. I usually rush everything and try to focus on either school or volleyball,” she said. On Wednesdays, Hillers attends youth group at the Silverdale Methodist church hosted by Newlife. Her coaches refer to her as a social butterfly, she said.

Hillers was recently featured in the Kitsap Sun newspaper in an article about CK’s athletic program. “I think it’s pretty cool that CK is getting recognized for its good athletics,” Hillers stated.

In sixth grade she picked Mira Bai for an inspiring role in a presentation for a museum.
