Marvel has had much success recently with their addition of television miniseries on the streaming service Disney Plus. The newest of which is the show “Hawkeye” starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld.

The show aired on Nov. 24, and is loosely based on the Hawkeye comic book series by Matt Fraction. As a long time Hawkeye fan I have been very excited for this show and have been waiting for it for years now.

Renner plays Clint Barton, a superhero archer known as Hawkeye. Steinfeld plays Kate Bishop, a young woman who has looked up to Barton since she was a child and wants to follow in his footsteps.

The show starts out with a flashback to the events of the first Avengers movie as a young Kate Bishops’ life gets saved by Barton. This causes her to look up to him as an inspiration and want to be like him.

It then jumps forward to the present day where Bishop is now a young adult living in New York and Barton is retired and visiting New York with his children.

The show is Christmas themed and fast paced with a good amount of action. Bishop gets into some trouble involving Barton’s past and he wants to help bail her out while keeping his name in the clear.

The way that the two meet each other in the show is very similar to how they meet in the comic book “Young Avengers Presents Hawkeye” by Matt Fraction.

There are many similarities in the show straight from the comic books. Including many characters from the Matt Fraction Hawkeye run, such as the tracksuit mafia, Lucky the dog (Pizza Dog), Grills and Kazi.

It is very thrilling to see these characters adapted in live action though there are some small changes, as there are with many adaptations from written material. Barton and Bishop’s dynamic is a fun mentor student duo and their personalities create hilarious one-liners.

The show has personally met my own expectations and is a great watch for casual fans and comic book fans alike. All episodes are now streaming on Disney Plus.
