Central Kitsap High School’s varsity girls basketball team faced off against Yelm High School in a home game on January 30 and lost with a 71-65 score.

The varsity teams began playing at 7:00 p.m. and finished after about an hour and 45 minutes. CK kicked off the game with a strong start and a lot of fight, quickly amounting a score nearly double of Yelm’s throughout the first two quarters of the game.

The atmosphere in the gym grew tense during the third quarter. Both teams were neck and neck with each other. Despite maintaining an upper hand during the first half of the game, CK’s lead began to slip during the second. With seconds left to spare in the third quarter, Yelm secured a lead of three points over CK.

In the final quarter, the scoreboard for each team was close. CK and Yelm played hard for the win, and Yelm ultimately left the court with a winning score of 65-71, gaining six points over CK.

Despite the night’s loss, CK varsity coach Marshaun Thompson affirms that he’s proud of his team and their work ethic.

“I think our team’s biggest strengths are our team chemistry,” said Thompson. “The girls seem to really get along on and off the court.”

The varsity girls basketball team is set to play their final game of the season on Thursday, February 1, at 7:00 p.m. Additional information like schedules, location, and ticket availability are available on the CKHS athletics website
