On Dec 17 the Central Kitsap High School Cougars took the court against the Mount Tahoma High School Thunderbirds, ending with a score of 63-60 Central Kitsap. It was a close game with both teams playing with intensity.
“The game plan coming in was to slow down #1 Mikkah Cordero,” Williams said. “Normally, he’s a really good player, so we wanted to keep him out of the game as much as possible.”
The leadership of the boys basketball team not only stems from Williams, but also it’s players. Being down at the end of the first three quarters, Central Kitsap team needed its leaders to step up, which is exactly what CKHS senior and power forward Liam Bieber did.

“I thought it was a good win,” Bieber said. “I thought it was a really physical game, and we knew that the refs were going to let us play today, so we just had to stay mentally tough so we could be physically tough.”
The game was close for its entirety, whether it was due to mental mistakes or costly turnovers from both sides. Not every game goes without imperfections, but as every game passes by, more learning opportunities come up for both players and coaches.
“We could have held our emotions in check way better,” Bieber said. “We had too many techs [Technical Fouls] which is not a good reflection of who we want to be, but we can build on it, work on it, and get our mental game right for the next game.”
CKHS will look to ride off of the momentum from this win to their next game on Dec 19, at home against the Silas High School Rams.
“I’m happy we got that weight off our chest,” Williams said. “We needed that.”
