On Jan. 22, Central Kitsap defeated Bellarmine Preparatory School in a boys junior varsity basketball game. The lead shifted throughout the game, with both teams staying even with eachother. In the end, the final score was 47-44 Central Kitsap.

“The game really went well,” Central Kitsap JV Team Captain Deion Collins said. “We executed everything, offense went flowing… we were talking on defense, every one had energy, and it was a great game.”
To start, Bellarmine Prep made multiple baskets before Central Kitsap was able to respond. This drive wouldn’t last long, as Bellarmine Prep would hold the lead by the end of the first quarter with a final score of 18-13. This pattern lasted until the very end, as Central Kitsap behind at the end of all four quarters. These small defeats shed a light on mistakes made by the team.
Central Kitsap has many plans for improvement going forward.
“[When asked if the team has plans for future games] [We will] continue to box out [and] communicate on defense, so the fundamental things,” Central Kitsap Coach Ashley Robinson said. “Although we’ve gotten better, there’s still little things that we still have to work on.”
After losing to Bellarmine Prep earlier this season, Central Kitsap won in a game against them on Jan. 21, before this game the next day. Thanks to these repeated conflicts, Robinson prepared the team with new and improved tactics, using the mistakes from past games to better their chance of winning.

“I saw the different changes that we had to make, and we did a few tweaks to our defense and so the outcome came out great,” Robinson said.
Thanks to a strong offense and defense from both teams, the lead went back and forth a total of six times before Central Kitsap captured it with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, solidified by scoring two extra points in the final seconds of the game. The team will continue to practice for their upcoming game with Lincoln High School, who they say is the top team in their series.
“Everybody stay ready [for the upcoming games], go Cougs. Rawr!” Collins said.
