Opinion: 10 Costumes I Do Not Want to See on Halloween

Halloween is a time where people can either dress up well and unique, or mainstream and unoriginal.

Today is the beloved Halloween. I know that there are a lot of people who love to prepare for Halloween early and figure out what they want to be for Halloween sooner than those who wait till the last minute. Overall, there are a few costumes I do not want to see whatsoever today.

1- Scream/Ghostface

Now, there’s absolutely no hate for those Scream fans, I do love the classic slasher horror franchise, but I think the costume has been something everyone has done at least once in their life. The “Ghostface” costume has been overused for way too long and it’s overhyped. It is not worth all of the hype and popularity this costume has.

2- Barbie

I’m aware that the Barbie movie just came out and there are thousands of costumes that were created in honor of it. I mean, there’s plenty of other costumes out there that you can wear. Please, don’t waste your money on a $30 costume, just to look like one of your classmates for a single day.

3- Inflatable Costumes

I find inflatable costumes to be such a waste of space and money. Why would someone send $50 for a blow-up dinosaur costume that they can only wear for one night a year? Maybe more than once, but even then it’s bound to gain a tear or two.

4- Occupation/School Costumes

Any form of occupational/career-based costumes are usually poorly made and inaccurate. Even then, there is a constant need to romanticize and sexualize these types of costumes. I just also find it boring to want to dress up as a dentist for Halloween, try to be creative and do something else!

5- The Purge

Purge costumes have been over hyped and run on for far too long now. It’s unoriginal and you really can’t be super creative with it. Everyone does the same thing and there’s never a change in style whatsoever.

6- Minions

I have no hate against Despicable Me or Minions, but I do have a hate against the costumes. They’re all poorly made and everyone is so unoriginal when it comes to minions. I’ve seen some rather funny minion costumes online, but until I see some in person, I don’t want to see these this year.

7- Foods

Food costumes have and will always be very stupid and unoriginal. I don’t see what’s so fun about dressing up as a piece of bread for Halloween, and the costumes usually look super weird anyways and wonky. Food costumes also take up way too much space— why is a carrot trying to squeeze through the door?

8- Inanimate Objects

The idea of being an inanimate costume is very 50/50 with me, but more or less, I just don’t like them. They’re basic and even when someone attempts to be creative they just end up copying the same thing off of Pinterest or Instagram. They’re really not that cool and they take up way too much space.

9- “Pun” Costumes

Pun costumes… I dislike them so much. They’re not that funny and they’re extremely tacky. If you decided that for Halloween you wanted to dress up as a “deviled egg” and you thoroughly planned that costume out, I don’t get you. They’re not that creative and people end up copying one another from time to time.

10- M3GAN and Wednesday Costumes

I find this to be the most basic and overhyped thing you could be. Besides, every single costume is just a copy and paste of another with a higher price, I will never understand why someone would choose to dress up as one of these. There is no way someone could change my mind about this.
