It is important to know your community. The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market is a great place to get busy with farmers, food vendors, crafters and customers.

The event occurs every Saturday on Bainbridge Island and is located in their town square at City Hall from April  to November from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There are about 36 vendors that make an appearance at the market regularly.

The event was started back in 1990 and was started by local farmer Brian Macwhorter of Butler Greens farms, who has been farming for 48 years. His produce has a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and even flowers, the colors pop and make your mouth water. Brian along with other vendors have been a part of this event since the event started.

I also got to talk to Betsey Wittick of Laughing Crow farms, while talking to her, customers chimed in to say how much they loved buying locally because “it is fresh, fresh, fresh! And it supports the local economy” another customer said, “Its fresh and supports the farmers.”

Though there are many farmers, a majority of the vendors are crafters. Amos Staffler of AmosSoma is one of those crafters, an organic esthetician who designed her own skincare line to meet her and her daughters skincare needs that were not met with traditional skincare., She has been a part of the farmers market since 2017. “I wanted a product that was going to be transformational, with active ingredients, and without chemicals,”she said.

She now ships globally and has grown her business significantly.

This event would be a calm environment to bring friends, family and even kids. The environment of the event was welcoming and calming soft live music and the smell of yummy food filled the air. Vendors and customers are very friendly. It’s great to see my community get together and support one another.
