The 18-year-old, Shawn Mendes, pop singer and songwriter from Canada has become a huge success in the music world. His fame started out on Vine (a video social app). With his growing audience, Mendes then started writing and performing his own music. John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars were Mendes’ top musical influences. Ed Sheeran is one of Mendes’ inspirations, and also a fan of Mendes. Mendes also stated that he would love to collaborate with Eminem. Mendes was born and raised in Toronto Canada. He speaks English, Spanish and French.

Many students at CKHS admire him as a musician, “He is a very talented artist and it’s a very personal performance at his concerts,” said junior Chloe Tuttle. “He is a very under-rated, he has people that know him but not that many people know his meanings,” said Tuttle.

Shawn Mendes taught himself how to play guitar when he was just 13-years-old. Not only does he play guitar but also plays piano. Mendes’ mission in life is to stop cyber-bullying and help people boost their own self-esteem through self-empowerment and self-love. He recently launched a project that focuses on positivity.
