On Oct. 12, students rushed through the doors of Central Kitsap High School to attend the homecoming dance. It was the talk of the school as students planned to bring their best suits and dresses to the dance floor.
The DJ played hits like “FE!N” by Travis Scott, “Just Wanna Rock” by Lil Uzi Vert, “Hot to Go!” by Chappel Roan, and many other hits that the students attending danced listen to. There were other rooms for entertainment, like a board game room, where there were snacks, drinks, and candy. If students wanted a break from dancing, the boardroom was filled with games, like UNO, Jenga, Blackjack, giving students the option to fluctuate back and forth.
Senior Logan Archer was one of the students to help set up the event, specifically the Esports room. Located in the band room area, where they offered games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Logan mentioned how he was mostly in the video game room, and when he wasn’t he was out socializing in the other rooms.
“Most of the time I was just playing video games and just walking around and talking to people,” Archer said.
Archer also mentioned his opinions on the music choice that was played by the DJ.
“I think it was good I don’t personally listen to music too much myself—I heard that the DJ was new, and people really liked him, so it was nice,” Archer said.
Next door from the video games action, there was a karaoke room for people looking to sing to their favorite songs to their heart’s content. The line was fairly long with an audience enthusiastically cheering the singers on after every performance. Multiple students additionally went to get dinner before or after the dance with their friends, with some students going to modest places and others went to more formal restaurants.
“I went with my date and some other couples,” junior Keller Matthews said. “So, we made it a double date, and it was just fun to hang out with my friends.”
Getting familiar with the layout of the dance, Matthews went from room to room to say hi to friends. He shared his thoughts on the music choice, saying it wasn’t quite his style and would’ve appreciated a different style of music.
“I don’t have modern taste—more pop, but it wasn’t bad,” Matthews said. “I would have preferred a couple slow songs, but for what it was, it was pretty good.”
The homecoming dance seemed to go well with the student body, and they all seem optimistic for the next.
