Senior A.J. Tower tries to catch the runner in front of him.

The CK Cross-Country team hosted Gig Harbor last week and the boys swept them with a 40-20 lead. The girls however, unfortunately lost by one.

The Cougs typically host one home meet a year and are always supported by dozens of family and friends. Spectators position themselves throughout the course and cheer on the runners which helps more than one would think. Senior A.J. Tower said, “When we have two more miles to go, and I hear my name loud and clear, it pushes me to go get the guy ahead and keep going.”

The course itself is one of the league’s toughest, not only because of the multiple hills and turns, but because it is ever changing. Head Coach Mark Ward is constantly re-routing the course to meet the race length standard which is 3.1 miles.

Even though CK’s home turf is one of the more difficult races to run, the team raced well with several PR’s and they supported each other straight through the finish.
