Central Kitsap High School’s girls soccer team has been dominating the scoreboard this season. On  October 9th the ladies faced off with the Shelton Highclimbers at Silverdale Stadium. Junior Courtney Murray got her first opportunity to play offense this season and shocked Coach Vicki Webb by scoring a goal on the visiting Highclimbers.

“She has been so essential to our defense,” Coach Webb said. “I never expected her to be such a strong player on both sides of the field.” Winning against Shelton 9-3 should have been no surprise to anyone following the team through this season. It has become a familiar sight to see the Cougs leading on the scoreboard.

The girls have won nine games, tied one, and lost none; this incredible record has earned the team a fourth place ranking in Washington state. If the team continues their winning streak they will compete in leagues, then districts. Based on their success, they may have a chance at playing in the state competition. Senior Michaela Wallitner believes the team’s success is due to “a strong offense and many experienced players.” Players like Courtney Murray have been playing soccer for almost ten years.
