Design telling students where they can share food.

Central Kitsap County’s food bank has been serving the community since 1989. It is located on the campus of the Central Kitsap High School. The donated food helps the people in need around us get a supply of groceries without the struggle of spending money on food. The food drive also helps the people in Silverdale. It’s an easy way to make a big difference in your community with a simple donation of your unopened, unwanted food that maybe someone else could enjoy. Even items such as hygiene products are accepted.

Activities Adviser Katie Staker said those items are very generous because they are expensive.  Also, students contribute every year. Class presidents scheduled and managed shifts of student workers to ask for donations at Safeway and Walmart for two weeks.

Each class receives spirit points towards future pep assemblies. Staker, who runs the food drive, said “The food we collect will go to the Central Kitsap Food Bank and help people right here in Silverdale.”

ASB president Abraham Shim said the food drive is one of his favorite activities of the year. He’s been doing the food drive since his 8th grade year. Shim says he and other ASB members love “benefiting the less fortunate and keeping a positive student culture–make all the work enjoyable.”
