Every week, a spooky new episode of “The Poisoners’ Cabinet,” is released, a podcast about poison drops full of murder and scandal. All episodes on Apple Podcasts feature a different poison, from the commonly used arsenic to the most lethal concoction also known as Aqua Tofana. In the United Kingdom, listeners are able to join the hosts Nick Gordan and Sinead Hanna as they travel across the world with stories of the murders from the ancient Greece to 1920s America.
Nowadays there are less and less poisoning cases, as the poisons/poisonous substances became more scarce and harder to obtain, but with tons of research and dedication, the tales are resurfaced and told with good jokes. The killer in each story is wonderfully portrayed by either Gordon or Hanna. They tell a story which includes a special poison that a killer used to kill, with their motives mostly for life insurance, revenge, or love.
They look into the past lives of the killers and their path leading into their own killing career, what family members have done to the person, as most killers were hurt physically or emotionally. Almost all of them have been abused or mistreated in some way.
The stories are well researched and delivered, with jokes in between the storytelling, always perfectly timed. This podcast is probably the only one besides “Cold Case Files” that is an enjoyable listen, not only is it full of suspense but the suspects are brought to justice.
Both hosts are a delight to listen to; they use funny voices and make jokes that connect with the story or the poison. Each episode ends with a quote that leaves a chilling effect.
“Your loved ones are trying to kill you,” Hanna said.
The quote proves that some people may be plotting your demise. It may be your significant other, your sibling, it might be your own mother. I recommend this podcast for anyone who wants to learn more about poison.
