Aki The Teriy-Aki
Senior Aki Buckson moved to the United States during his sophomore year from Japan. In Japan, Buckson started playing tennis when he was a freshman. “I’ve played three years because I took my junior year off.”
Buckson has always enjoyed the intense competing and playing in tennis. After seeing one of his friends playing tennis in Japan, Buckson was interested right away. This year is his first year of playing for CKHS.
He never knew the old coach, but Buckson thinks that the new coach seems to “know what he’s talking about.” Most of his teammates agrees with this statement and even add that the old coach did not put enough effort into the practices.
With the season well underway with close victories and losses, Buckson and his team have gotten time to know each other well during their everyday practices and matches.“There is a good chemistry, (and) everyone is having fun. I think of my team as in between family and friends.”
Buckson is sure that he will not go into a career in tennis and does not think he is state bound. “The only person on the team who stands a chance is Tyler,” said Buckson. “Of course, You don’t have to be good. You just have to have the right mindset.”
