Sports Medicine Competition

Sports+medicine+students+had+to+form+CK+for+a+scavenger+hunt+in+which+they+participated+during+the+competition.

Sports medicine students had to form “CK” for a scavenger hunt in which they participated during the competition.

CK’s Sports Medicine team placed 7th in the sports medicine competition. They headed out on Friday, April 22nd, 2016, at 6 in the morning. First year students (Juan Balmedina, Michal Bernard,Janie Brine,Lindsay Chaffee, Ana Duenas, Nicole Hansen, Nicole Regynski, Hailey Roche, Brooke Stahl,Clara Tedford, Morgahn Warner), second year students, (Gunner Cook, Hannah Fergus, Makailyn Neumann, Katie Thorsen), and third year students, (Christopher Blanton, Kacyi Tanner, Casey Cobb, and Karlee McGrew) went to Kennewick for the competition.

They competed in different categories like Anatomy, Oral Practicals, Knowledge Bowl, and Forum. Five first year students (Juan Balmedina,Michal Bernard, Lindsay Chaffee, Nicole Regynski,and Morgah Warner ) competed in Knowledge Bowl.

Seniors Kayci Tanner,Casey Cobb, and Karlee McGrew did a forum about Pars Defect which is when there is a break in a vertebrae in the back. The group used senior Matthew Plyler as their subject. Plyler tagged along just for this forum to help tell his tragic story.They received the second place award for the forum.

Seniors Hannah Fergus, Makailyn Neumann, Christopher Blanton ,Katie Thorsen, junior Gunner Cook, and sophomore Brooke Stahl competed in the Oral Practical division. Thorsen was in 20th place out of 250 for that division and received a medical bag.  In this test, the students had to tell instructors where certain things are on the body, for example,ex: third DIP joint.

Senior Kayci Tanner and junior Janie Brine competed in the Anatomy/Physiology division; they tested their knowledge about the bones and parts of the human body like the heart. Brine placed 9th place out of 100 for the division.

Seniors Makailyn Neumann and Casey Cobb competed in the speed taping competition but were thrown off by the different tapping styles that they had to use.

Junior Nicole Hansen and sophomore Hailey Roche competed in the CPR division.They had to know what to do in certain situations that resulted in CPR. Senior Karlee McGrew and sophomore Clara Tedford competed in the personal trainer division. Senior Karlee McGrew placed 13th in that division. They had to take a written test about personal training. Senior Casey Cobb and junior Ana Dunenas competed in the Medical terminology division. They took a test on the medical terms. “This is my third year going and this year was tough since I had to do the forum, but it was a great experience. I hope future students can do even better than what we did and win the competition,” said senior Kayci Tanner. The sports medicine team left with 7th place in the “MedCo” division (out of 40).
