In the Box – with Coach Eric Schuette
SILVERDALE, Washington – AAAAAAND TOUCHDOWN COUGS!!!!! The rush of excitement and tackling force of adrenaline doesn’t end on the field or in the stands; up in the box, coaches harness sovereignty over a match of the beloved American sport and make strategic moves with their 11 chess pieces.
Coach Eric Schuette has spent 17 years of dedication to the athletic plight of Cougar football. He said being up there “allows him to see the whole field and to make adjustments quickly.” What else could a Defensive Coordinator want?
The game takes on a new perspective from the box’s aerial view and gives the coaches more of an authoritative advantage. The overarching freedom to join in the jubilant cheer of the crowd or snap at the faults and missteps during a play is not restrained while in the box, but hindered for the sake of productivity. Schuette said, “I would love to coach from the field, but the box allows me to coach more from statistics and less from emotion which is a good thing in football.” Emotional reactions are quite common during the season, as the broadcaster voices the intensity of every ticking second, dictating the expansion of every new 1st down, and, the expectant crowd anxiously awaits the buzzing of the end of every quarter.
Schuette plays the game from the box and said, “…with coaching football you have never arrived.” He said that there’s “always something more to learn.” When it comes to building relationships as a coach, he said, “There’s nothing like it.”
