Brittani Smith, Alexis Smith, and Izzy Wheeler warm up at the start line before the race.

September 28, CKHS Cross Country Team had their first home meet of the season against Capital, Gig Harbor, and Peninsula. As soon as they started, the girls’ team was off to a good start, with junior Molly Fischer leading the pack. During the race it was clear that the girls practiced hard every day before the meet. When asked if the girls were ready for the race, junior Alexis Smith answered, “The girls were ready because of practicing hard with the coaches as well as the rest of the team, and because sometimes girls are just more prepared.“

As the race progressed, the Lady Cougs ran past families, coaches and the rest of the Cross Country team there to cheer them on during the race. As the runners approached the finish line, it turned into an all-out sprint battle to shave a few extra seconds off their time, and to pass people before the finish line. As the Lady Cougs passed the finish line it was clear to see that the hours of hard work during practice had finally paid off at the meet.  The girls team got second place out of 70 girl runners with an ending score of 50 points. This may have been the only home meet of the season but you’re CK  cross country team is still running strong.
