This year at CKHS the administrators are going to be heavily enforcing the school dress code. They started taking more action at the end of last year but are starting from the beginning of the year to maintain it.

There has been much talk over the years over what a school dress code does to the students, especially the girls. Some say it ends up body shaming, or making it uncomfortable to go to school, and others say they feel a lack of freedom when they can not express themselves with what they wear. 11th grader, Christina Calma expressed that, “The dress code does have some reasonable rules but the bra strap rule I think should be abolished. A majority of women are attached to the idea of wearing a bra so how are we supposed to conceal something that in majority is normal? Also shorts in the winter i understand shouldn’t be worn but during the warmer days I do enjoy wearing shorts”.

Another student said that she has never witnessed a guy getting dress coded, “I have even seen boys wearing short shorts and bad/inappropriate things on their shirts”. Some girls at the school have even got detention for being dress coded, and even sent home. Students should be able to feel comfortable in a place they spend 5 out of 7 days of their week.
