As winter creeps closer and closer the minds of skiers and snowboarders begin to dream of the cold days, deep snow, and stories that a day at the mountain entails. Since 1969 The Central Kitsap School District has provided students with a chance to spend their Saturdays during the winter skiing and snowboarding at Steven’s Pass. Enrolling in Central Kitsap Ski School includes eight Saturdays of snowboarding, six lessons, a seasons pass, and transportation from Central Kitsap middle school to Stevens Pass. A seasons pass will cost $369.00.

“It’s for sure the highlight of my winter” says Tristan Barr, senior at Central Kitsap High School. “It’s super fun to be able to ski every weekend with my friends.” Participating in Ski School allows students to make friendships with people who share similar interest, while still increasing your ability to partake in the activity. When asked if it was difficult to wake up at 5 AM to catch the bus he responded with “Not too bad. It’s all part of the experience. I just really love to spend time outdoors in general so this is right up my ally and gives me something to look forward too.”

“I actually started doing ski school in 8th grade and it’s been the winter tradition ever since.” state’s senior Logan Field. “I’ve made a solid group of friends who all love to ski and snowboard and it’s become something I look forward to every year.” Ski School is open for all ranges of abilities and provides lesson ranging from level 1 (For a first time skier/snowboarder who is new or hasn’t tried the sport yet) to level 7 (which provides advanced riders to specialize in freestyle or freeride as well as experience riding on all parts of the mountain). “Ski School definitely accommodates all skiers and snowboarders. When I started I wasn’t that good, but being able to go up on Saturdays and take lessons increased my ability rapidly”, states Logan.

Ski School sign ups forms are available at the Central Kitsap Ski School page “http://ckskischool.weebly.com/registration.html” under the tab registration. This will provide information about signing up as well as payment options to accommodate all needs. “Honestly the whole vibe is great. I highly recommend people to participate participating in ski school I’m not sure if I would have picked up skiing if I wasn’t involved. If you’ve ever thought about skiing or snowboarding it’s definitely for you at least try it once and you will grow it love it as well.” stated Senior Tristan Barr.
