For most seniors applying to colleges is the next step in continuing their education. With applications, scholarships, and letters of recommendation this time of the year becomes busy and takes up an inordinate amount of time. Senior Evan Van Pelt states “Yes, there is a lot of paperwork involved which takes time to fill out, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not too bad.” Contrary to this Senior Sierra Barron stated “In a way it is kind of exciting to applying to colleges. It’s the next step in your academics and exciting to picture yourself somewhere new.”

Kevin McCarthy stated that one of the most valuable tips he can give students is “Starting as soon as possible on applications. Waiting and procrastinating just increases the stress for you and your parents.”

Mccarthy also pointed out that “Starting your college essay early and allowing yourself time to review and revise it will pay off rather than writing the essay the night before applications are due.”

Another issue students run into throughout the process is letter of recommendations. Many students procrastinate asking for letter of recommendations which irritates teachers especially with their busy schedules and the holiday season approaching.

Although many students feel stressed and anxious with the amount of work associated with applying to colleges it’s is a pivotal point in the education process and “Even though I have felt overwhelmed at times with letters of recommendations, SAT, and college essays I am excited to start the next chapter,” stated Evan Van Pelt.
