Homework over winter break is something students gripe about every year. They want to spend time decompressing, not stressing! Even if they understand why they receive homework, they will have trouble finding the motivation to complete it all.

“It keeps your brain working, but no one is going to sit down in their free time and think about what X equals,” Simon Green, a senior, said.

Debbie Duane, an English teacher, says the only homework she gives over break is extra credit.

¨It´s family time,¨ Duane said. Students spend six hours of their day at school, then spend an average of three and a half hours working on homework according to a study done by the University of Phoenix. During break, they are able to relax for an extended period of time.

With the ever present need to have straight A´s, students are struggling to keep the delicate balance on a normal schedule. When there’s several weeks worth of free-time, you would be hard-pressed to find any student willing to do it immediately.
