Journalism class’ tools for publication

by Carter VanVuren, Writer

Most teachers at CKHS share bonds with their students. For those who want to know the students better, they can proctor a club to give students something to do after school with friends. Katherine Miller is one of these teachers, and runs four clubs at CKHS; Write club, Journalism, Link crew, and ASB adviser. She loves the diversity of the clubs and believes that “student involvement is important”. Her goal is to support her students, and keep them safe in the club environment.

Miller hopes her clubs will gain more recognition and that more students will join. Writing club has had a tough couple of years, after it didn’t have enough members to actually have meetings, but Miller hopes to bring it back this year and publish more stories and poetry. Journalism is also working on new exciting articles. She thinks the app for the Cougar Chronicle will help the journalism club get more recognition. Link crew is built to help new freshmen get involved in the school. As an ASB adviser to the senior class, she supervises the projects that students see in the pep assemblies like the lip sync.

Mrs. Miller has recently started a new club dedicated to knitting, crocheting and embroidering, called fiber arts club that meets every Tuesday after school in her class. Writing club meets every Wednesday after school until 3:30, and is slowly growing in members. The journalism class continues to work diligently to bring students the news around campus, and also hide plastic dinosaurs around the classroom.
