Zero hour is an optional class period students can choose for certain classes, running from 6:45 a.m. to 7:40. There are only four zero hour classes offered at Central Kitsap: Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Weight Training, and Intro to Fitness.

¨It´s not that different,¨ says sophomore Adam Carlson. It´s quieter than normal classes, but that can be attributed to the early hour.

¨You have to have a lot of commitment,¨ according to senior Jessica Soltero, a part of the Jazz Choir. She lives in East Bremerton, so she must be precise in her daily travel plans. The timing is annoying, but she enjoys the class.

¨I love singing, it’s a lot of fun,¨ Soltero says. She would never give it up, even when she has to de-ice her car to get to school.

Technically, no one other than a junior or senior is allowed to have more than 6 credits, however there are exceptions to every rule. The only real requirements for being a part of a zero hour class is reliable transportation.

Zero hour is an excellent way to scoop up those last few credits, especially with PE classes. There are certain downsides to them though. Teenagers already do not get enough sleep according to scientists. To be a part of zero hour is to give up an extra half hour or hour of sleep. There would have to be a conscious effort to go to sleep earlier, unless there’s a desire for a lack of focus, acne, and irritability.

Make sure to grab a cup of coffee.
