The attitudes of others can take a toll on students. The school took a survey in the fall on how they feel being at the school which is helpful information to the administrators. According to the Educational Effectiveness Survey about 27% of people don’t enjoy coming to school, part of that could be caused by the atmosphere. In that same survey 28% of students say that other students are not respectful, which is mainly caused by the atmosphere.

Samantha Thompson is a junior at CK and is described by her friends as a happy, outgoing student who is always ready to help out her acquaintances. Thompson says “The atmosphere of the school is often kind of negative in my opinion. It doesn’t really affect me because I learned to be positive when others are negative and also my friends are very positive. I’ve noticed a big majority of the school students feel like they are constantly being put down.” School is a place where learning is top priority. Having happy students in class, makes it easier to get the education across to them. There are changes that would be made to the school that would possibly make the atmosphere better. Thompson thinks that if the teachers were a little more uplifting , then maybe the students would be happier.

Gail Danner is the co-principal at CK and has given results of the fall climate school survey. The survey asks students their opinions on the school atmosphere and overall how they feel at school. Danner says, “I believe the results are helpful to use for keeping up with what we need to work on and what to improve on. It’s nice to see that we have improved on some categories through the years and that what we are doing is indeed working.” Taking this survey makes it easier to be able to tell how the students feel about being at school. Danner thinks, “The data is useful for staff to use for what they need to work on as administrators and how they can help in the school. The data shows what the students feel can improve and how they see the school environment.”

Jason Allen is a freshman and is new to the whole high school environment. Sometimes it can be hard to learn when others are distracting you. Allen thinks, “The school is sometimes difficult to work in because people aren’t always the nicest and it can carry on in your classes.” If students and staff would control how students talked to each other, things would definitely change. He says, “I think if school started later then more people would be happy and not so tired all the time.”

School is a fun place for students to be able to interact with each other and to learn new material. The teachers do all they can to help all the students and make the atmosphere of this school fun and enjoyable for all. The students and staff have their opinions on how the school should be run but, that doesn’t always work out how they want. The new school could bring new attitudes from students and help better the school’s atmosphere.
