Principal Stephen Coons answered questions about the new school.

Principal Steven Coons is rapidly preparing for the new Central Kitsap High School building. “Construction should be nearing substantial completion around Fall, 2019,” stated Coons, “with some items going into the school year that will need wrapping up.” The “old CKHS will remain standing for a little while, but ultimately, it will need to be taken down and replaced with a viable community asset, such as fields or a park.”

According to Coons, the parking will be improved after the new buildings are set in place, but getting there will be no easy task. Coons advised that students take school-provided transit, rather than attempt to park during construction.

and moving of huge volumes of dirt is very expensive and the budget is limited.

“The commons areas and cafeteria will be larger, as well, with better security. Visitors to the school will only be able to enter through the main entrance.” Coons described the new security and ideas for the entrance to the school. The school will have doors that can be locked with the simple push of a button, and there will not be an abundance of ways to enter the school from the outside. This will create a safer and easier way to navigate the school, as the current building can be described as being maze-like or similar to a labyrinth.
